Oblivion (2013) is a sci-fi film set in a post-apocalyptic future where Earth has been devastated by a war with alien invaders known as the Scavs. The story follows Jack Harper (Tom Cruise), a drone technician stationed on a desolate Earth, tasked with repairing and maintaining aerial drones that protect the remnants of humanity and extract resources from the planet. He lives in a futuristic home high above the clouds with his communications officer, Victoria (Andrea Riseborough).
As Jack carries out his duties, he experiences recurring dreams about a mysterious woman (Olga Kurylenko) and a time before the war, which causes him to question his mission and the truth of his existence. One day, while on a routine assignment, he encounters a crash site containing a spaceship and discovers survivors in cryogenic sleep, including the woman from his dreams.
Rescuing her leads to a series of events that unravel the truth about the war, humanity’s survival, and Jack’s own identity. He learns that the real enemy is not just the Scavs, but the powerful artificial intelligence, known as Tet, that controls the drones and has manipulated humanity’s fate.
As Jack joins forces with the surviving humans, he battles against the Tet’s drones and uncovers the shocking reality of what happened to Earth and his role in it. The film culminates in a struggle for redemption and the chance to reclaim humanity’s future, blending themes of identity, memory, and sacrifice in a visually stunning narrative.
